New law means Colorado cyclists get more room | road.cc | The website for pedal powered people: Road cycling, commuting, leisure cycling and racing:

"A Colorado law recently signed by Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter not only requires motorists to give riders at least a 3-foot-wide berth, it also makes it illegal to throw things at riders.

The bill also means cyclists will be able to ride closer to the centre of the road when riding on the shoulder is too dangerous and ride two abreast when there is no traffic behind them. The law also makes it legal for drivers to cross a double yellow line - when safe - to pass cyclists.

The Colorado law is similar to several passed or considered this year in Lousiana, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Texas."

"...research, to be presented on the 29th of June 2009 at the Society for Experimental Biology Annual Meeting, has shown that mice fed for two weeks on a diet high in sunflower oil, which contains n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, ran on average 0.19m/s faster than mice fed a diet rich in linseed oil, which is high in n-3 fatty acids.

This means that, over a 2 second sprint, a mouse fed on a high n-6 fatty acid diet would have a 0.4m advantage. This represents a 6.3% improvement which equals that achieved in the 100m world records over more than 75 years"

"On Father's Day I decided to go out to put some long miles in rural country. This adventure included one of my favorite spots to climb. Known as Alma Hill Road, in Alma NY, it happens to be the highest point in Western New York at 760m above sea level. At 4 miles and 1000 feet of climbing on dirty, grainy, rain washed road at an average of 5-6% gradient (steepest around 12%), it will quickly tell you whether you are in climbing shape, or if you aren't, readily provide a poorly done road before you to blame and vent your frustration onto."

Thurs and Sat ride

Just a reminder that there is a group ride leaving from Lincoln Park in Olean today at 6 pm. Route is approximately 30 miles--give or take.

Saturday morning in the Interfaith Caregivers rider leaving from the Allegany River Park. The 100k ride leaves at 8:30 with registration starting at 8 am. Don't be late or you'll miss the "Bo Train". It's my understanding that it is the same route as last year. The shorter rider leave at time increments after that. If anyone wants to wimp on down with me, I'll be doing the 50k ride this year.

Thursday, June 4th leaving from Lincoln Park in Olean, NY Proposed route is out Genesee St to the Dugan. Onto Route 417 East to route 305 south in PA. Then McCrea Hollow Road to Ceres. From Ceres, 417 back to Olean Via Steam Valley Road. Hope to see you there
