Bicyclist hits bear while going 45 mph - UPI.com

Two stories you may be interested in:

First from the United Press: Bicyclist hits bear while going 45 mph - UPI.com:
"Tim Egan was on a bike ride in Boulder County when he had an unexpected collision with a bear he estimates weighed 500 pounds and was six feet tall"
and then secondly from Chicago Tribune on a 24 mountain bike race:
"A teenage girl riding in an all-night bicycle race suffered severe injuries early Sunday morning when a bear attacked her on a trail in Far North Bicentennial Park, authorities said.

Police officers with shotguns escorted medics into dark woods to retrieve the girl."
and from the AP on the same story reported that the rider is out of surgery but in critical condition.
"The girl called 911, and dispatchers heard someone struggling to breathe. She whispered one word — "bear" — and the line went dead, Hill said.

Following procedure for when an emergency call is cut off, dispatchers called the number back. Another rider heard the phone ringing, stopped to investigate and spotted the teen off the trail.

"That rider was able to pick up the phone and talk with the police department," Hill said."

There was mention of the bear attack on the "Up in Alaska" blog this morning. I think she will be reporting more as it information becomes available. Makes you think about the bears in ASP.
