Victories not important to Astana boss - Cycling - Yahoo! Sports

Victories not important to Astana boss - Cycling - Yahoo! Sports:
"“It’s two big stars and it’s interesting to see how they’re going to work together and how it’s going to go. Ultimately, if it works out well, I know that my role is very important in that and I would be very happy,” Bruyneel said.

Bruyneel said that the stronger rider heading into the Tour’s July 4 start date would get the No. 1 rider status. Armstrong, still working on his fitness after a three-year layoff, said Thursday he was willing to ride support for the 25-year-old Spaniard.

Bruyneel believes Armstrong will only make the team, and Contador, stronger."

Don't let spin-cycling classes intimidate you - ContraCostaTimes.com:
"These classes aren't just for mad-dog cyclists looking ahead to Ride the Rockies or the Triple Bypass. They're for skiers and runners recuperating from knee injuries and people who just want to knock off a few (or quite a few) pounds. A man in one of my classes credits group cycling with helping him lose more than 50 pounds.

People don't really believe how accessible these classes are until they've actually completed one and confirmed for themselves that they (not the instructor) are in control of how difficult their workout will be."
When do classes start at the ymca?

Bicyclist hits bear while going 45 mph - UPI.com

Two stories you may be interested in:

First from the United Press: Bicyclist hits bear while going 45 mph - UPI.com:
"Tim Egan was on a bike ride in Boulder County when he had an unexpected collision with a bear he estimates weighed 500 pounds and was six feet tall"
and then secondly from Chicago Tribune on a 24 mountain bike race:
"A teenage girl riding in an all-night bicycle race suffered severe injuries early Sunday morning when a bear attacked her on a trail in Far North Bicentennial Park, authorities said.

Police officers with shotguns escorted medics into dark woods to retrieve the girl."
and from the AP on the same story reported that the rider is out of surgery but in critical condition.
"The girl called 911, and dispatchers heard someone struggling to breathe. She whispered one word — "bear" — and the line went dead, Hill said.

Following procedure for when an emergency call is cut off, dispatchers called the number back. Another rider heard the phone ringing, stopped to investigate and spotted the teen off the trail.

"That rider was able to pick up the phone and talk with the police department," Hill said."

PICC Father's Day Time Trial

Yesterday was another time trial at Presque Isle State Park. 146 riders competed with a course record being set by Jay Joslyn at 24:56.30. He averaged 30.1 mph on course. The weather was perfect. It was 70 degrees at start time with a light headwind (both ways, which I really don't understand.) There were many PR's set yesterday and cash payouts to overall and age group winners.

The next time trial at Presque Isle will be September 7th. I'll be attaching entry forms and information when it becomes available. Let's see if we can generate some interest and carpool riders out there.

As for generating interest, is there anyone who would like to do an informal TT once a month. We can use the honor system for timing. The West Five Mile to Five Mile makes a nice course with little traffic. Start and finish could be at the top of the Expressway bridge. If there is any interest, let me know. Monday and Wednesday nights would probably work out well , or we could designate one Tuesday night a month for it.

Come TT with me. Flat roads can be fun too!!!

Added Ride Schedule

Hi Everyone, I added a ride schedule. Unfortunately the weather hasn't been too cooperative lately. Let's plan to ride this Tuesday (weather permitting). I don't know about everyone but I've had a very slow start the season. Please let me know if there are any changes or if you want to add new one. Lynn

Reminders

It was suggested that we do the Ride of Silence. Bluett Jones asked to put the idea out there. The ride will be on Wednesday, May 21st at 6 pm. We'll meet at Lincoln Park at 6 pm and be clipped in and leaving no later than 6:15. The Ride of Silence is done to remember cyclists who have been injured or killed in auto accidents. The ride is going to go through Olean and Allegany. We will be obeying all traffic signs and signals. The intent of the ride to is raise awareness of cyclists with motorist. More information can be found at:

www.rideofsilence.com

Entries for the PICC time trial are being accepted until June 5, 2008. The time trial will be held at Presque Isle State Park on June 15, 2008. Riders will leave at 8 am in 15 second intervals. It's a great first race for the season. The course is fast and flat (yes, I'm hung up on this fact.) Wind usually isn't too much of a problem. Come test yourself in the race of truth.....Entry forms can be found under events & news at:

www.picycling.com

Last by not least, training rides have started at ASP for Racoon Rally. They are being held on Thursday with the first loop leaving at 4 and the second loop going at 6. Rides leave from the Red House beach parking lot. These rides are in conjunction with the Hollyloft team. Everyone is welcome. Ride at your own risk and bring someone of you level to ride with. I'll be there for sure this week at 6 so come join me (looking for hill slugs).
